LITTLE TREE MONTESSORI NURSERY
143 Ferme Park Road, London N8 9SG
CURRICULUM
Following The Montessori Method
PRACTICAL LIFE
The Practical Life activities are designed to teach independence, concentration, motor skills, care of self and care of the environment.
SENSORIAL
The Sensorial materials are purposefully designed to sharpen and develop the child’s sensory perception. Exercises with colour, texture, sound, and smell help the child to know what they perceive and to learn from it.
MUSIC & MOVEMENT
Weekly drama classes, singing, musical instruments, yoga and other movement activities give children the opportunity to notice and explore patterns in music, how sounds can be altered, match movements with music and express themselves.
Established in Crouch End in 1991, Little Tree Montessori is a nursery where children have the freedom to explore the full range of Montessori materials.
The classrooms are very carefully designed and prepared so that everything is child size and within their reach.
We maintain a peaceful and calm atmosphere for learning in a safe and orderly environment.
The children work at their own pace with material which is stimulating and purposeful.
Every child wants to learn. There is no need to force them.
We take children from 2 to 5 years old. Contact us to book a visit.
OUTDOOR PLAY
The children have easy access to the outdoor spaces including the two gardens, providing them with opportunities to be active and interactive, to develop tier co-ordination, control of movement, balance and spatial awareness whilst running, jumping, climbing and playing with the outdoor equipment.
ART & CREATIVE DESIGN
Arts and crafts activities allow the children to explore colour, shape, form and texture through a variety of media and materials. This takes place both during group projects and through spontaneous use of the arts and design materials available in the classroom.
MATHS & LITERACY
Children are gently guided onto pre-number work through activities that introduce mathematical concepts and language in everyday contexts. Likewise, they are gradually introduced to literacy via pre-reading and pre-writing activities which give them the chance to link letters and sounds, and develop hand strength and wrist flexibility.
CULTURAL ACTIVITIES
Cultural activities are an important part of the Montessori curriculum. We teach the children about different cultures and religious festivals and encourage parents to participate in and inform these activities.
SCIENCE, GEOGRAPHY, HISTORY & NATURE
The children are introduced to concepts in these areas through real experiences and their own interests and fascinations. Children take part in and observe experiments to allow them to better understand the world around them. They are encouraged to explore and contribute to the nature table, and take part in activities involving timelines, lifecycles, the solar system, planet Earth, the continents and more.
